Maine State Police will step up patrols in an effort to keep the roads safe over the Fourth of July weekend.

State Police will utilize additional troopers, unmarked cruisers and their airplane, according to press release sent out on Tuesday.

Colonel Robert Williams, the Chief of the State Police, said the first two weeks of July is typically the busiest time of the year on Maine roadways.

“State Police will be looking for aggressive and impaired drivers and enforcing Maine’s seat belt and texting laws,” Williams said.

Col. Williams said July and August are two of the deadliest months on Maine roads and additional enforcement will continue through Labor Day.
