The Thomas Hill Standpipe in Bangor opened to visitors for the annual Fall Foliage Tour on Wednesday.Visitors were allowed to climb the 100-step enclosed staircase and view the Bangor area from the promenade deck.

The standpipe opens for tours four times a year. The Bangor Water District hosts the Spring Tour, the Fall Foliage Tour, the Summer Sunset Tour and the Winter Holiday Tour, which will include a visit from Santa Clause, and is scheduled for Wednesday, December 16 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The Thomas Hill Standpipe is designated as a national historic landmark by the Maine Historic Preservation Commission The standpipe, which was built in 1897, can hold 1.75 million gallons of water.
