A police standoff that lasted over four hours on Interstate 95 today ended when a man in a U-Haul truck died of a single gunshot wound. State police believe it was a self-inflicted wound and say that he was not shot by police. The identity of the man has not been released.

Public safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the man and a woman who was driving the truck were being sought by police in connection with an ongoing missing persons case that they have been involved with since the weekend. A sheriff's deputy stopped the truck on I-95 southbound at around 4pm between Lincoln and Howland. The woman got out of the truck unharmed before the man died. The man's body was found in the truck just before 8pm.

Traffic on both sides of the interstate was stopped for several hours while police dealt with the situation. At last report, the southbound lane of the highway is still closed while police gather evidence from the truck. It's expected that there will be more information available on Tuesday.
