A lengthy standoff in Smithfield over the weekend ended peacefully with one man facing charges.

WABI-TV reports Somerset County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a domestic violence incident on the Village Road at around 4:30 Saturday afternoon. 62-year-old Ronald Lane had allegedly choked a family member before she was able to flee to a neighbor's house.

Officials say Lane threatened to shoot the deputies as they approached the house. A perimeter was set up and the State Police tactical team was called in. Negotiations were slow-going and the standoff stretched into 2:30 Sunday morning. During that time, Lane was allegedly texting the victim, threatening to hurt her and burn the house down.

At that point, police entered the home and took the man into custody, taking him to Redington-Fairview Hospital before arresting him. Lane is charged with Aggravated Domestic Assault and is being held at Somerset County Jail.
