Power company officials said a squirrel is to blame for a power outage affecting about 3,600 households, mostly in Northern Penobscot County.

The critter entered a Millinocket substation and damaged part of the electrical equipment on Thursday, according to a news release from Emera Maine.

Crews are currently working to safely restore power. Power is expected to be back on by 3 p.m. For updates, please refer to Emera's outage map.
