A man from Bath is facing multiple charges in connection with the alleged abuse of a 4-month old child.

Bath Police Lieutenant Robert Savary said in a press release that 20-year-old Payson Martin was indicted this week by the Sagadahoc Grand Jury. He's charged with 6 counts of class B aggravated assault, 3 counts of class C assault on a child less than 6 years old, and 3 counts of class D endangering the welfare of a child.

The charges stem from a report to the Bath Police from the Department of Health and Human Services in March of 2015 of possible child abuse. Bath PD investigators worked the case in cooperation with DHHS and The Spurwink Child Abuse Program.

The victim in this case was a 4 month old male, who was known to Martin. Martin was unable to post his $25,000 bail and so has been taken to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. He's due in court on November 17th.
