According to the BDN’s Ernie Clark, Back in 1947 a team from Patten Maine’s Patten Academy, a school with only 88 students of which 29 were boys, traveled to Boston to participate in an unofficial Class B Championship against a team from Boston Latin who boasted a roll of 1,800 students.

The game was played at the Boston Garden and went into overtime where the Patten Eagles won over the Boston team 35-32. This win at their induction to the Hall of Fame in Bangor was described as a win of “Hoosier” proportions.
