The National Weather Service is predicting some accumulating snow in much of Maine Friday night and into the weekend.

The agency issued a hazardous weather outlook in advance of an incoming storm that could bring 2-3 inches of snow to the Katahdin Region Friday evening.

Then, this weekend, a winter storm is expected to bring snow north of a line from Greenville to Millinocket to Houlton.

Rain is expected in Down East areas Saturday into Saturday night. The precipitation will then change to a mix later Saturday night with a mix of rain and snow on Sunday.

In Bangor, the forecast calls for rain likely before 10 p.m. on Saturday, then rain and snow likely between 10 p.m. and midnight, then snow likely after midnight. The chance of snow is 70 percent. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

There is also a chance of snow before 11 a.m. on Sunday.

The weather service advised that "significant uncertainty" remains about snow accumulations.
