Aroostook County had snow yesterday, on the 16th day of May, which made me thank my lucky stars that my parents decided to move out of their hometowns and settle in Brewer.

My Dad is originally from the Wade/Perham area, just outside Washburn. Growing up on the Wade Road, his parents' house sat on a hill, where there always seemed to be a breeze, and the snow seemed to last longer. Still, I can't remember the area ever getting 7.5 inches of the white stuff in mid-May! But that's what happened yesterday, where his hometown got the highest level of snowfall.

Mom grew up in Woodland, right outside Caribou, where they got 4.5 inches of snow yesterday, breaking a record, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou. Planting in the region is set to begin in a couple of weeks, and they're still getting snow! But the good news is, it's supposed to warm up by the end of the week, so whatever stuck around on the ground won't stay for long.

As a kid, I remember going to visit my grandparents when the roads were like tunnels through snowbanks so huge that you couldn't see the houses behind them. More than once, my parents sent my brothers and me to the top of one of those banks in order to  take our picture.

I saw my folks last night and shook Dad's hand, thanking him for settling in Brewer, rather than sticking around in Northern Maine. It's a beautiful region, for sure, with rolling fields of potatoes, barns, and livestock creating an idyllic landscape. But seven inches of snow in May? No thank you!
