Smyrna Crash Sends 81-Year-Old Man To Hospital

An Aroostook County man was taken to the hospital following an accident in Smyrna on Thursday.

It happened at the intersection of Routes 2 and 212.

Police say 81-year-old Allen Whitney of Island Falls failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a vehicle driven by 60-year-old Philip Shields of Dyer Brook. The impact nearly caused Shields’ vehicle to rollover.

Whitney was taken to the hospital as a precaution due to chest pains.

Police say Shields refused medical treatment.
