State Police say 58-year-old Greg Lizotte and 64-year-old Terry Beals had flown to Princeton to pick up a second plane and return it to Houlton.

Lizotte was piloting the 1965 Cesna 172 alone when the engine began to lose power and he was forced to make an emergency landing into Brackett Lake in Weston. State Police say Lizotte was able to escape the plane with only minor injuries and swam to shore.

Maine State Police and the Maine Warden Service responded to the crash around 4:30 p.m.

The Federal Aviation Administration, the National Traffic Safety Board and Maine Department of Environmental Protection are investigating the crash and plan to remove the submerged plane as soon as practical.

The plane is owned by Carol Warren of New Hampshire.
