Police say a 24-year-old woman was killed when her SUV left the road and struck a tree during a heavy rainstorm. It's believed the vehicle hydroplaned before the crash.

According to CM News, Jarrica Gomes of Skowhegan was killed in the accident that happened just after 5:00 Tuesday night on the Middle Road in Fairfield. Her Ford Explorer crossed the center line and hit a tree on the opposite side of the road. First responders reported that they hydroplaned on the way to the scene, so it's believed to have been the cause of the accident.

That section of Middle Road was shut down for about two hours while the scene was cleared.
