Skowhegan Teen Arrested For Car Fires

A Skowhegan teenager is facing charges in connection with four car fires in a residential parking lot.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the State Fire Marshal's Office has charged a 15-year-old with one count of arson and burglary. His name isn't being released because he's a juvenile. He was taken to the Mountain View Youth Development Center in Charleston and is expected to make his first court appearance today.

The four fires were set at around 4 o'clock Monday morning to vehicles parked in the lot at the Family Circle housing complex and on West Front Street. Two of the vehicles were totally destroyed and the other two were badly damaged. Investigators say the fires were set by lighting combustible materials inside the vehicles.

The boy was arrested at his home by Fire Marshals and Skowhegan Police on Tuesday afternoon. A search of his home turned up a set of keys to one of the vehicles, that were found under the boy's pillow.
