An increased police presence was visible at Skowhegan Area High School yesterday, after a threat of violence was posted on social media.

In a post on the department's Facebook page, Skowhegan Police Chief Bucknam said that these types of threats against children are taken very seriously. At this point, police say, there's no indication that the threat of school violence that was posted on social media is credible. However, law enforcement is taking precautions, to help make students, school staff, parents, and community members feel safe.

Chief Bucknam says additional officers have been added, to assist School Resource Officer David Daigneault, and the department is in close communication with Superintendent Brent Colbry.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Daigneault at (207) 474-6386, or send a message on the department's Facebook page.
