State Police say a man was killed early this morning while traveling too fast on a skateboard. The man lost control of his board and collided with some birch trees.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the accident happened at around 1:30 this morning on the Unity College Campus. 23-year-old Christopher Garbinski of Unity was heading home with his two roommates, after visiting friends on the campus. Authorities say Garbinski lived in Unity but was not a student at Unity College.

The accident happened when the trio, led by Garbinski, descended down Loop Road, toward the intersection of Quaker Hill Road, and were traveling too fast to make the left hand turn. Garbinski crossed the Quaker Hill Road and crashed into several birch trees. The two other men, 27-year-old Sylvanus Egerton and 24-year-old Luke Munster, also crashed in the same area but sustained minor injuries.

Immediate first aid was given to Garbinski by his roommates, which was supplemented by Unity EMS a short time later. The Medical Examiner's office plans to examine the body to determine cause of death. Waldo County Sheriff's deputies also assisted at the scene.
