A Sidney man was found deceased in Great Pond today, not far from his running motorboat.

Game Wardens were first alerted by residents who noticed George F. Bonney's motorboat running in circles near Hatch Cove in Belgrade just before noon. Several unsuccessful attempts were made to stop the boat before wardens were able to jump into the craft and shut the motor off.

Just a few minutes later, a member of the Belgrade Fire Department located the 64-year-old's body about a quarter mile from his motorboat. Bonney was found in about seven feet of water and was not wearing a life jacket. Game Wardens have determined that he was the only person in the boat.

The Maine Warden Service continues to investigate this incident to figure out what caused Bonney to become separated from his boat. His body has been taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta for an autopsy to determine cause of death.
