Three people were arrested Sunday in connection with a violent assault at a South Portland motel Saturday evening.

Police arrested Aria Pomerleau, 21, of Westbrook, Nicole Haycock, 28, who has been living in the Portland area, and Benjamin Martineau, 27, a Portland transient, the Portland Press Herald reported.

Police said the assault left a female victim “badly beaten and bleeding,” but her injuries were considered non-life threatening.

The suspects also allegedly trashed the victim's motel room and stole her car.

The three were taken into custody as officers executed a search warrant at the Wellesley Estates apartment complex off outer Forest Avenue in Portland late Sunday morning.

The suspects were charged with burglary, robbery and aggravated assault.

Haycock was also charged with violating her probation and had an outstanding warrant. Martineau faces additional charges of unauthorized use of property and violation of probation.

Police said the suspects initially refused to let officers inside the residence, but a SWAT team entered the home and took them into custody.

Residents of the apartment complex said a half-dozen police officers with guns drawn approached the apartment, and they were told to stay in their homes until they were given the all-clear.
