Police in Maine say speed and alcohol were factors in a crash Tuesday night that left seven people, all 18 and 19 years old, with injuries.

Four men and three woman were hurt in the wreck near 298 Spec Pond Road in Porter, which was reported around 11:45 p.m., Maine State Police said Wednesday.

The 2013 Nissan Altima the teens were riding in went off the road and slammed into a tree.

The crash remains under investigation, and police are also trying to determine how the teens obtained the alcohol.

A Lifeflight helicopter and two ambulances transported five of the victims to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Two of the women "were the most seriously injured," and both remained hospitalized Wednesday, police said.

The names of the victims were not immediately released.
