Is your child a budding young rocker-in-training? Are you trying to figure out something cool for them to do this summer besides get better at video games? Do you have a desire to come and watch your kid do something that will make you so proud, you want to go in a corner and cry your eyes out? The boy oh boy, have I got some news for you!

The week of July 23rd - 27th, the Maine Academy of Modern Music will be hosting a summer Rock Camp thanks to the Bangor Arts Exchange and Launchpad! Based out of Portland, MAMM has been doing camps like these for years, and more recently have been spreading the love around the state. They've offered similar programs in Machias and Augusta, and now they're expanding to Bangor this year.

Over the course of the week, the students are guided through the process of forming a band, choosing and learning songs, as well as a performance at the end of the week. It's a great time for the kids to get their first glimpses of how life in a band works. As a musician myself, I would've done anything to participate in something like this. The kids really get to express themselves and experience the thrill of setting goals and accomplishing them.

If this sounds like something you / they are interested in, there are still some spots left, so get in touch with the awesome folks over at MAMM. All the information for all their camps is easily accessible at their website, MaineAcademyOfModernMusic.com. There's a lot to check out while you're there. You can see tons of photos of kids rocking out, doing their thing, and it's an awesome sight indeed.

The kids are well looked after, constantly encouraged to do what makes them happy, and express themselves as creatively as possible. They're encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and push their skills, while building their self esteem as much as possible.

So have a look at the site, check out some YouTube videos, and read about some of the great experiences kids from all over Maine have had so far. And let's see these kids kick it up a notch on their way to becoming the future of music!
