If you're the parent of a budding young musician, and you've never heard of the Maine Academy of Modern Music, then let me be the first to tell you that this is one of the single coolest organizations on Earth to get your kids involved with. Hands down. They specialize in empowering young musicians through music performance and the joys of learning more about their instruments.

As seen on their Facebook page, on July 8th-14th, MAMM will be hosting an Overnight Rock Camp at University of Maine Machias. Kids get to immerse themselves in the whole band experience. They learn some cover tunes, write their own originals, and perform them for their peers and families.

I've been down to Portland on a few occasions to be a judge at the MAMM Slam, which is kind of like their version of a battle of the bands. Every year I'm always blown away by the amount of talent and dedication these kids have. It's incredibly inspiring. Nothing makes me want to practice my instrument more than after I've seen a bunch of up-and-coming whipper snappers.

I will also be teaching at the Bangor camp this summer when MAMM hosts a camp at the Bangor Arts Exchange in July also, the 23rd-27th. And again, the most inspirational part will be seeing the kids practice and perform. And honestly, I couldn't be more humbled to be a part of it.

If you'd like to register your child for any of these camps, do so at MaineAcademyOfModernMusic.org as soon as possible. These camps fill up quickly, especially as summer gets closer. I assure you though, it will be one of the most awesome memories your young musician will create. Get registered today!
