It's a horror that rarely comes to us in nightmares--someone near and dear to you suddenly comes up missing and the worst has happened...but it was only a dream. Unfortunately, for a number of families right here in Maine the nightmare of a missing loved one, only to be found murdered, is all too real. And the hope of any closure or justice fades with each passing year for the grieving families.

As it stands, Maine has a listing of 68 unsolved murders that date back many years. Take for instance Mary Olenchuk of Ogunquit, whose body was found under loose hay in a barn in 1970; Dorthea Burke of Stockton Springs was found deceased on a road in 1984; and one of the more notable stories tells of Joyce McClain of East Millinocket, whose partially naked body was found on a powerline area behind the Schenck High School soccer field.

You may be able to help solve a murder by visiting the Maine state government website and reading some of the details in some of the unsolved homicides. Granted the stories don't go into great detail, but there may be a tidbit of information that may trigger a memory.
