A Sebago man has died after what police are calling an accidental shooting in Baldwin.

Cumberland County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a gunshot wound to the chest at 1:45 Sunday afternoon. When they arrived at the sand pit off Carl-Burnell Road, they learned that 6 male friends in their early twenties had been target practicing when the incident happened.

WCSH-TV reports that one of the firearms jammed and two of the men attempted to fix it. The rifle accidentally went off, just as Chance Gallant of Sebago walked four to five feet in front of it. He sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.

Sebago Rescue and Life Flight personnel worked on Gallant for more than an hour but were unable to revive him.

The incident is still under investigation.
