The Maine Warden Service has recovered the body of a Connecticut man who disappeared while canoeing in a Raymond pond.

Corporal John MacDonald said in a media release that 52-year-old Christopher Hughes had been missing since around 10:00 Thursday night when he went canoeing alone along the eastern shore of Panther Pond. Friends told authorities they soon heard distressed hollering from the man and called for help.

Raymond Fire Department personnel and game wardens responded and searched into the night for the man. While searchers couldn't locate him, they did find his overturned canoe. WLBZ-TV reports they were back on the water early this morning and finally located the man who is presumed to have drowned when his canoe flipped over.
