An overnight standoff ended with the arrest of a Scarborough man who locked himself inside a house with three young children inside.

Police told the Portland Press Herald that William Bowser, 56, locked himself inside the Scarborough home after allegedly assaulting two adult family members.

Police in SWAT gear responded to the home on McIntyre Way around 9:45 p.m.

The man surrendered peacefully shortly after 5 a.m.

Bowser was taken to the Cumberland County Jail and charged with domestic violence assault and creating a police standoff.

The children were not hurt in the incident.
