The Salvation Army will be collecting school supplies this Friday in Bangor, to benefit local families in need.

It's still summer and we don't want to think about back-to-school, but the reality is, it's just around the corner. And as someone who used to buy school supplies for three kids, I can attest to how expensive it gets very quickly. A backpack that can handle all the books and homework they bring home is pricey enough, but when you add in all the other supplies, it can really strain a parent's budget.

So on Friday, the Salvation Army will be at Target in Bangor, collecting school supplies that will help make the back-to-school season a little less stressful. Folks can drop off donations to the Salvation Army in the Target parking lot tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. They need everything from backpacks to pencils. And, if you can't make it over on Friday but have a little time today, there is a donation box set up at Target.

Parents who want to sign their children up to receive donations can call the Salvation Army at 941-2990, but today is the deadline. Any excess supplies at the end of the drive will be given out to area schools throughout the year.

A box of crayons or some pencils may not seem like much to you, but they'll mean the world to a parent whose other option is to send their child to school without them. We hope you can help!
