A man was killed instantly Thursday when his vehicle struck a speed limit sign on I-95 in Saco.

30-year-old Michael Cantara of Saco died when his vehicle left the northbound lanes of the road and struck the sign, according to a press release sent out Thursday by Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Police say the impact sent Cantara's vehicle about 20 feet into the woods.

The wreck disrupted northbound traffic between Exits 36 and 42 for much of the day.

Police have not said why Cantara’s vehicle left the road. The accident remains under investigation.
