Ask most anyone who has ever won a trophy or a medal, and they'll tell you that soon those tangible reminders just collect dust on a shelf, or find their way into a cardboard box and then stuffed away in a basement or attic never to be seen again. But there are some accomplishments that can earn you a 'medal of the heart.' It's a trophy that stays with you for a lifetime, never to collect dust or forgotten.

You're about to meet North Dakota teen, Melanie Bailey, who earned her medal of the heart when she took time to help an injured runner during a cross country meet, with no thought of her own need to cross the finish line. You see, Danielle Lenoue, a fellow senior runner, developed a painful knee injury and couldn't even walk. While many other runners cruised on by, Bailey hoisted her on her back and carried her to medics further down the course.

Now that my friends is true sportsmanship.
