Several Waldo County schools went into lock-out mode Tuesday after a report of a student with a gun.

The Mount View school complex in Thorndike went into lock-out mode when a concerned citizen reported seeing a student waiting for the school bus, while holding what appeared to be a handgun.

According to a press release sent out by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, the student boarded the bus, which was pulled over by deputies a short time later.

Lt. Jason Trundy says deputies removed the student from the vehicle and determined there was no gun.

Trundy says the student was in possession of a pellet gun prior to getting on the bus.

Trundy says the student left the pellet gun at home and did not try to bring it to school.
