Doggies and their humans can sign up now for the canine-friendly Relay for Life-type event, Greater Bangor Bark for Life, coming up in June.

I've attended (and co-hosted) this event for several years, and it's such a fun afternoon for dog lovers! Inside the track at Bangor Raceway, many vendors are set up that cater to dogs. You'll find everything from leashes and collars, to information on doggy daycare, to trainers that can help you keep your pooch well-mannered. A food truck offers refreshments for the humans, and there are contests for the pooches, like a doggy costume competition. And, of course, lots of dogs! My favorite part of the event is just walking around, saying hi to all the dogs and giving them some attention.

The entire event is only two hours long, from 4 to 6 p.m., so the pups don't get too bored or too stressed. It's like a Relay for Life-type event, but without the continuous walking. There are several individual laps around the track during those two hours, for cancer survivors, caregivers, etc. Then, at the end of the afternoon, everyone takes to the track at Bangor Raceway and does one sunset lap, with luminaria lighting the way. All the money raised goes to the American Cancer Society.

Registration is open now for this year's Greater Bangor Bark for Life on June 2nd, and folks can sign up as individuals or form a team. Sign up today, May 1st, and you'll also have a chance of winning a $50 Gift Certificate to Bangor Pet Resort & Spa. I hope to see you there!
