A Recovery Messaging Seminar in Brewer will discuss positive ways to address those in recovery, which will help encourage them on their journey.

There's no doubt that words hurt. From the bully on the elementary school playground, the abusive life partner, to the belittling boss, words destroy our self-esteem and hinder our own self-growth. And they stay with us, long after the insensitive person is gone from our lives.

So, a Brewer-based group that helps support people as they make their way through their own substance use recovery is holding a seminar about proper 'Recovery Messaging,' that's not hurtful and is supportive. The group known as Young People in Recovery, or YPR, will explain how to develop effective, credible language in regards to addressing those with a substance use disorder. The focus is on supporting their journey, rather than discouraging them with labels.

The seminar will be held Thursday evening, November 16th, from 5 to 7 p.m. in a conference room at Machias Savings Bank, Wilson Street in Brewer. A light supper will be served as part of the evening. For more information and to RSVP to the event, log onto the Facebook event page.
