Readfield Schools Closed After Social Media Threat

Schools in Readfield were closed Tuesday due to a threat posted on social media by a high school student in Kentucky.

Classes at Maranacook Community Middle School and Maranacook Community High School were cancelled, but RSU 38's elementary schools remained open.

The threat was reported Monday evening to high school administrators.

"The threat was anonymous but concerned the safety of students on the MCHS campus," the school district said on its Facebook page. "The administration determined that due to the nature of the threat and the priority of our students' safety, school would not be held on Tuesday, 11/28."

During a police investigation, it was determined that the threat was made by a Madison County High School student in Kentucky.

School officials said the district will continue to work with police to ensure student safety.
