Police have found a distinctive vehicle involved in a police pursuit last week. The driver has already been charged, after some initial confusion as to who the purple Chevrolet Tracker belonged to.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said in a press release today that the SUV was located behind a home on the Leighton Road in Durham on Friday. Police had asked for the public's help in finding the vehicle that went missing after the pursuit.

The driver of the vehicle, Wayne King, is charged with aggravated operation of a motor vehicle following a suspension and eluding a police officer. King was arrested late Tuesday night on charges unrelated to the case.

Originally, police had asked for the public's help locating another man who was on file as the registered owner. When he saw pictures of himself on Facebook and other media outlets, he contacted police and told them he had just recently sold the Purple Tracker to King, who also took the license plates.
