Bangor Hydro Electric Crews and crews as far as away from New Jersey are working to restore power to the slightly more than 15,000 customers without power in the Bangor Hydro Electric Service territory.

While they are working hard, the frigid temperatures are not allowing any melting of the ice on the lines. Customers without power should be sure to take advantage of the warming shelters that are open throughout the region, as temperatures are expected to be 10 degrees or colder tonight

A full list of shelters that are open may be found HERE. As of 12:30 PM there were 24 shelters open throughout the state.

Restoration Details:Extensive tree damage is the biggest problem field crews are reporting as they tackle power restoration on this Christmas day. New crews have arrived to help with the repairs and will work tonight and into tomorrow morning.

Customers are asked to avoid approaching crews working in the field as it may be unsafe and may delay restoration efforts. Inquiries about restoration time should be directed to the Customer Service Center. Also, customers are asked to be patient and not attempt to remove trees that are near or touching power lines.

At least one report of carbon monoxide poisoning serves as a reminder to keep generators outside and installed properly. Gas grills and other outdoor equipment must also be used outside.

Any routine service orders or system maintenance will be delayed until power restoration is complete.
