Officials at Mt. Blue High School say a student has been expelled for giving classmates brownies containing marijuana.

Superintendent Tom Ward told the Kennebec Journal the student gave the brownies to at least two classmates in December.

Ward says the incident was reported by classmates who saw the student pass out the brownies on school grounds.

The student has been expelled indefinitely but the school will work with the student to formulate a re-entry plan.

The plan is said to include taking part in community service and keeping up with coursework while expelled.

Ward says at some point he'll meet with the student to discuss returning to school.
