Portland Police are looking for a suspect in a shooting last night that left a man with life-threatening injuries. 

The victim is a 39-year-old Portland man who was taken to Maine Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. Police say he was shot during an altercation on Preble Street, in the area of the Public Market Parking Garage. So far, the victim's identity has not been released. Police say he is expected to survive.

According to Portland Police, the suspect is an unknown white male who's about six feet all and 200 pounds, with shoulder-length brown hair. He was wearing a dark colored, pullover hooded jacket and dark cargo pants. The suspect was last seen running west on Cumberland Avenue.

Officials say this appears to be an isolated incident and the two men are believed to know each other. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call the Portland Police Department at (207) 874-8575.
