Portland Police say a double shooting that injured a teen girl and a man was accidental.

The 30-year-old man and 18-year-old girl were in a vehicle together on Cumberland Avenue Sunday when the gun went off. Police say it appears the man was handling the firearm recklessly in the front seat when a single shot was fired. The bullet went through the man's hand and into the leg of the woman sitting in the backseat. The driver wasn't hurt in the incident.

An investigation into the shooting was complicated by the fact that the man apparently panicked and took off. This made the shooting appear, initially, to be suspicious in nature.
