Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to an Orrington home Tuesday after a man allegedly made threats against police.

Sheriff Troy Morton told the Bangor Daily News the man barricaded himself inside the home after he called the Penobscot Regional Communication Center at about 1:30 p.m. and threatened police officers.

Morton said the threat was "serious" and police believed there were firearms inside the home, which is located near the intersection of Johnson Mill Road and Center Drive.

State and Brewer police and deputies from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s office were still at the scene at 9 p.m.

A portion of Johnson Mill Road was shut down, and some neighbors evacuated their homes while others sheltered in place.

Center Drive School, nearby on School Street, was placed under a soft lockdown. The principal said the school was notified at 2:15 p.m. that the situation had been contained and the children could go home for the day.
