An armed robbery was reported Tuesday afternoon at the Skowhegan Savings Bank branch on Main Street in Norridgewock.

Police were told a man wearing a red ski mask, a winter hat and a dark colored vest entered the bank, displayed a firearm and demanded money, according to centralmaine.com.

The man fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Somerset County sheriff’s deputies, state troopers and Fairfield police officers responded the bank.

K9 units were deployed to search for the suspect along Main and Perkins Streets.

The nearby Mill Stream Elementary School on Mercer Road was placed on lockdown after school officials were notified of the robbery around 1 p.m.

Students were dismissed at about 2:30 p.m., the normal dismissal time. Parents of students who normally walk home from school were notified of the situation and told that they may want to pick up their children instead.
