A man who stole a car from in front of a local hotel is being sought by police. The car was recovered but the suspect got away.

Bangor Police said in a press release today that a man left his keys in his car Monday evening, around 7:45, and went into the Ramada Inn on Odlin Road in Bangor to check in. When he returned to the parking lot about three minutes later, he saw his car being driven away.

The victim's vehicle had dark tinted windows so he said he could only see what appeared to be the suspect wearing a black, flat-brimmed hat and dark sweater. He notified police and within minutes Penobscot County Sheriff's Deputies spotted the vehicle near Dysart's in Hermon.

The deputies gave chase and the suspect drove into Etna before finally crashing the car and taking off into the woods on foot. At that point, police lost him and, as of Tuesday morning, he had not been located.

Anyone who knows the identity of the suspect or thinks they may have information about the incident should call the Bangor Police Department at 947-7382. If you wish, you can press 6 to leave a message on the department's anonymous Tip Line.
