Police have identified the body found in Rockport as a man who was wanted for alleged sex offenses against a child.

The decomposed remains have been positively identified as 45-year-old Kevin Mitchell of Lewiston, who was a suspect in the sexual assault of a minor. Mitchell was reported missing in May. His wife told police on May 2nd that his car had been found in Union but there was no sign of her husband. Mitchell's body was found by a hunter last week in the woods off of Mt. Pleasant Road.

According to the BDN, police have been looking for Mitchell, who was charged with four felony counts of gross sexual assault and unwanted sexual contact with a girl under the age of 15.

So far, officials have not released how Mitchell died. The investigation is ongoing.
