Bangor Police have released the name of the homeless man who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Hammond Street on Saturday.

50-year-old Robert Wallace West was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street near the intersection of Main and State Streets, according to a press release issued Tuesday.

Police say West suffered significant head injuries when he was struck by a car driven by 68-year-old Roy Parker of Bangor.

Parker remained on the scene until he was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center by the Bangor Fire Department.

A witness said West was not in a crosswalk when the accident occurred.

Det. Sgt. David Bushey says the accident remains under investigation but there's no indication Parker committed any traffic violations and it's unlikely he'll face criminal charges.
