The Washington County Sheriff's Department has released the details of a crash on Route 9 in the town of Wesley this morning. A 19-year-old driver was killed when her car collided with a loaded log truck.

Deputies responded when a 911 call was received at the Washington County Regional Communications Center at around 5 o'clock Thursday morning. The caller reported a head-on collision on Route 9, involving a loaded log truck and a passenger car. Deputies responded, as well as members of the Wesley Fire Department and Alexander first responders.

When deputies arrived, they found that the driver of the car, Kayla Robinson, age 19 of Trescott had been ejected from the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The log truck was driven by Dale Earle, age 55 of Calais, who also had a passenger with him. The passenger had minor injuries and both men were taken to Downeast Community Hospital for blood tests, as required in a fatal motor vehicle crash.

Robinson was traveling east towards Calais and it appears she crossed the center line, striking the logging truck head-on. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Assisting in the investigation are the Maine State Police Commercial Enforcement and Accident Reconstruction units.
