Three men are dead after a Tuesday morning shooting in the small Hancock County town of Lamoine.

For nearly seven hours Tuesday morning, police had been searching for 27-year-old Leon Tilden, who had been wanted by police in connection with the shooting deaths of his father, Robert Tilden, and his uncle Russell Pinkham.

The bodies of both men were found inside a home off Mud Creek Road, according to police. Police confirmed Tuesday that officers shot Leon Tilden during their search. He later died at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

News of Leon Tilden's death came at a 1 p.m. news conference by State Police, who a few hours earlier had issued a release that the suspect had been accounted for and the public was safe.

Police are not commenting on the motive for the murders.
