Police Investigation Underway in Brewer [UPDATE]

Brewer Police are investigating a series of burglaries in the city overnight.

WABI-TV reports police are investigating a series of break-ins overnight in Brewer, including at a Chamberlain Street house. Police say homeowners woke in the night to what sounded like a gunshot. The noise actually turned out to be the suspects allegedly using a hammer and a knife to open a safe that had been moved to the backyard. Medications were taken from the safe.

TV-5 reports police were also seen at a house on State Street. There's no word on how many homes were hit or whether anything other than medications were taken. We'll update this story as more details become available.
