Bangor police on Friday released the names of those involved in the tragic accident at the city's Fourth of July parade.

Wallace L. Fenlason, 63, of Holden was operating a 1941 tractor on Water Street and died instantly when a 1930 Hose 5 Museum fire truck, operated by Bangor firefighter, Patrick Heathcote, 29 of Levant rolled onto the tractor.

Police say initial reports indicate the fire truck’s brakes may have malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to collide with the tractor.

The accident occurred in front of many spectators at the busiest part of the parade route. Grief counselors were brought if for witnesses.

The accident is still under investigation.
