A Chelsea man is charged with breaking into a barn and stealing tools, a boat motor and chain saws, many of which ended up in a pawn shop, police said.

The suspect, Michael Freeman, 28, told troopers he needed money to support his heroin habit, Maine State Police said in a news release on Thursday.

The alleged burglary on Togus Road took place on March 15. Troopers say Freeman pawned the tools the next day for $275.

Freeman, charged with two counts of burglary and 2 counts of theft, is currently being held at the Kennebec County Jail.

In 2012, Freeman was charged with robbing Oxycodone from the Rite Aid pharmacy in Fryeburg and was still on probation when he was arrested for breaking into the barn, the release said.
