Police say alcohol likely played a role in a deadly accident in Vassalboro early Saturday morning.

Ronald Willey, 32, of Chelsea allegedly lead police on a high-speed chase before he crashed into a tree off Bog Road.

Police say they tried to pull Willey over for defective tail lights, but he sped up and reached speeds of up to 80 mph before the accident.

Willey and his passenger, 28-year-old Joseph Knox of Randolph, were killed instantly.

The Bangor Daily News reports Willey’s license had been revoked and police say he was likely intoxicated.
