A Lewiston man is accused of stabbing his son during a fight that started as they were driving together with a teenage girl.

The Waldo County Sheriff's Office said in a media release that the incident happened on Friday, just before 7 p.m. Maine State Police Trooper Don Webber was traveling on Route 3 in Belmont when he noticed two men on the side of the road, who were involved in a fight. He notified the Waldo County Dispatch Center, and Deputies were sent to offer assistance.

The subsequent investigation revealed that 59-year-old Allen Sanborn had been driving on Route 3, accompanied by his 17-year-old son and a 16-year-old female, when the two men got into a verbal argument. Sanborn stopped the vehicle and his son got out as the two continued to argue. Sanborn produced a knife and allegedly stabbed his son once in the torso, which prompted the confrontation to turn physical.

Both Sanborn and his son were taken to the Waldo County General Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the fight. Allen Sanborn was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Domestic Violence Assault, and Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon. No bail was set, due to the nature of the criminal charges.
