Our coworker, Kid, is spending the midweek hanging out at the Brewer Hannaford parking lot, collecting turkeys for Manna. Take him one (or more!) and be sure to tell him we sent you!

I laugh to myself each year when people ask me why I continue to ride a snowmobile each February while wearing a couple hundred raw eggs in my suit. Sure, it's messy and it can get pretty cold if any of the egg guts freeze on bare skin. But, let's face it, the entire event lasts a few hours. We eat breakfast at around 8ish and, by noon, I'm freshly showered and sitting in my living room with hot coffee and a blanket.

Kid, on the other hand, lives in the Hannaford parking lot around the clock from 6 o'clock Tuesday morning until 6 o'clock Thursday evening. That's two nights spent away from home, shivering in a parking lot. As I write this, he's been there for three hours, and it's only 36 degrees outside. I think I can hear his teeth chattering from here!

Why, you ask, does Kid subject himself to this punishment? It's all done to help folks across Maine have a happier Thanksgiving. He's collecting turkeys for Manna in Bangor and this year's goal is 2015 birds. But Kid commits to stay for the entire duration, even if they reach that goal a head of time. Last year's goal of 2014 was surpassed, with the highest total ever of 2, 820 turkeys. They'd really love to surpass that this year, but they need your help!

You can drop off your donation of a turkey (or turkeys) to Kid in the Brewer Hannaford parking lot. He's easy to spot. Just look for the white tent with the guy shivering in his headphones inside! You don't have to buy your turkey at Hannaford, but obviously that's very convenient. And, if you don't have time to shop, you can drop by with a gift card.

All the turkeys are taken to Manna, where they're divided up between food pantries and soup kitchens from Millinocket to Waterville. Manna's Executive Director Bill Rae says the need is great this year, so they can really use your support.

Stop by sometime this week, before 6 on Thursday, and give Kid a bird, won't you? And tell him Q-106.5 sent you!
