Snow is the last thing most of us want to think about. I mean, it's still summer! The kids just barely started back to school. And the leaves haven't even turned! But for a very special group of folks, snow is on their minds as they prepare for this year's snowmobile ride-in.

Q-106.5 has been involved with the Pine Tree Camp Snowmobile Ride-in for so many years, we stopped counting. Actually, we never really started counting so, by the time we thought to start keeping track, it was too late. All I can say is, it's been a part of our winter fun for as long as I've been here. And I've been working for the station for 28 years!

I know that when our listeners hear us talk about the Q-106.5 Pine Tree Camp Egg Ride, they think of announcers and TV news people putting raw eggs in our snowsuits and taking part in the snowmobile ride from Levant to Newport. But we are a very small part of a huge event that includes everything from dinners to dances to auctions and more!

And, attending the meeting last night showed me once again how hard these folks work to put on the Pine Tree Camp weekend, which is traditionally held the first weekend in February. Everyone at the meeting knew their stuff, and started working on planning a weekend of snowy, winter fun while most of us would have preferred sitting outside, soaking up the rays.

Ultimately, all this planning is about one thing - making sure kids who want to go to camp can afford to attend. I had my first visit to the Pine Tree Camp earlier this summer, and I can attest to what a beautiful and special place it is! A new playground joins the cabins, dining hall, and tree house that are all fully accessible. And no matter where you look, all you see are endless smiles.

So as you head through the rest of the summer and autumn, keep the Ride-In in the back of your mind. Maybe set out a collection jar in your office. So when the donation drive kicks off in January, you'll be ahead of the game. And together, we can send a lot of kids to camp!
